Sarah Lowell and Denise Davis at the finish of the first Nantahala Fria 100 In January of 2008. For Sarah, it was the first race of the inaugural Arctic Grand Slam. Denise won the 100 mile race and Sarah took a close second. The conditions were very extreme with ice, snow and sub zero temps at the high elevations during the night. This race was totally self sufficient. Many runners chose to run the shorter distances due to the harsh conditions.
